Welcome back to our returning students and families and a warm welcome to our new students and families! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday. STAFFINGWe welcome Miss Jones - Area 1, Mrs Catterall (working in tandem with Mrs Sijka) - Area 8, Mr Lavery - Area 12, Mrs Griffiths - AIEO, and Mrs Grindel – Registrar. We welcome back Mrs Burgers who is working a day in Pre-Primary. We also welcome Mr Acott who will be teaching music however has previously worked here as our Specialist Guitar Teacher. EMPS AWARDED THE $60 000 STEPHANIE ALEXANDER GRANTWe were thrilled to hear that East Maddington Primary School is one of 8 schools in WA. that was awarded a $60 000 grant to develop our Kitchen Garden Project. These funds will be used to expand our garden and renovate a room into a teaching area with kitchen facilities. We are also excited to have Mrs Claire Nairn take on the role of Kitchen Garden Coordinator and she has some exciting plans for 2009 which includes working with each class on an integrated kitchen garden program. We are desperate for volunteers to help support us both in the garden and with cooking classes so please see Mrs Nairn if you can help out in any way. EDU-DANCE BEGINS NEXT WEEKEdu-dance was a great hit last year with both the students and parents / caregivers and with financial support from our wonderful P&C, we have been able to provide students with this opportunity again this year. Lessons start next week on a Monday and Thursday. Students do need to be wearing closed shoes to ensure that they do not injure themselves. There will be a concert in the last week of term so look out for the date in our newsletters. BREAKFAST CLUB BEGINS NEXT WEEKWe invite all students and their families to Breakfast Club on Tuesday mornings from 8.45am. Breakfast is free and the club is kindly run by Mrs Del Barratt and our wonderful gardener, Mr Luke Lazaro. MOBILE PHONE POLICYWe have a mobile phone policy for students which requires students to hand the phone in at the front office in the morning and collect it in the afternoon. Copies of the policy are available from the front office. I hope all students had a great start to term 1 and encourage parents and caregivers to make contact with their child’s teacher if they have any concerns. It is always helpful to make an appointment so that your teacher is available and can give you his or her full attention without interruptions.
